Education

Like most of my colleagues, I’ve been an artist all of my life. After finishing art studies in college, raising a family was a full time focus. The kids got older. Studying art in earnest began again. Truth is I could be happy as the eternal student. Maybe that is what I am. I went back to school, went to grad school and started thinking about what it means to be an artist.

The renowned ceramist Ken Ferguson told me that the greatest compliment an artist could get was for a buyer to take the artist’s work into their homes and their daily lives. Lamps were sculptures that people took into their lives. So I made lamps. I sold a lot of lamps. Over the years Ell Décor, Southern Living, Women’s Day, Midwest Living, Architectural Digest, etc. featured my lamps. I won awards. My lamps were in celebrity homes across the country.

I loved designing lamps. The business took me all over the world. I met incredibly creative people. I keep my hand in the arts. My catalog always had a few prints of my drawings or paintings. I did proprietary work for an art line. But owning a business is much more business than artistic creativity. I wanted to leave business and go back to the studio full time, in 2020 I did.
